Quick answerHomeowners, renters and business policies often cover cleanup after a sudden event like a death, crime or injury. Coverage
What's usually covered
Most policies cover sudden and accidental events. A death at home, a crime or an injury usually qualifies. Hoarding and slow damage usually don’t.
Coverage varies, so we read the situation with you and talk to the adjuster.

- No money up front. We help with insurance and victim programs
The claim
How we handle it
We photograph and document everything, write an estimate that matches the scope you approved, and answer the adjuster’s questions. If the rebuild is needed, it’s in the same estimate.
If a claim is denied or partly paid, we’ll look at victim compensation and other options with you.
Talking to the adjuster
What to tell your insurer
When you report the claim, keep it simple: what happened, where in the home and when the property was released. You don’t need to describe the scene in detail. Tell them a cleanup company is evaluating the damage and will send documentation.
Write down your claim number and the adjuster’s name. Then give them to us. From there, we send photos, the scope you approved and an itemized estimate, and we answer the adjuster’s questions directly.
Renters and landlords
Who claims what
If you rent, the landlord’s policy usually covers the building itself, like flooring and walls, and your renters policy may cover your belongings and temporary housing. If you own the home, your homeowners policy usually covers both.
For landlords, a tenant death or crime in a unit is usually a claim on your property policy. We document the unit, coordinate with the tenant’s family if needed and keep your records clean for the insurer.
Extra costs
Costs people forget to claim
Many policies include loss of use, which can cover a hotel or temporary housing while the home is cleaned and repaired. Some cover replacement of damaged belongings. Keep receipts for anything you pay for out of pocket, like a hotel night or new locks.
If part of a claim is denied, ask the insurer to explain in writing. In Wisconsin, the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance can help with questions or complaints.
